CV Delivery
Ensure your CV can be read by as many people as possible
Today, you'll typically deliver your CV to Infopeople, other
recruitment agencies and direct to employers, via email. The document
file format you use will have implications you should consider.
Microsoft Word
More often than not, you'll be expected to provide your CV as a
Microsoft Word document, with the paper size set to A4. We
highly recommend this, but it has serious implications as to how you
should layout your CV.
If you use typefaces (fonts) that are non-standard in order to
enhance the look of your CV, you can't rely on the reader having
these typefaces and being able to see your CV as you intended.
Indeed, it's likely they could end up viewing a document that
looks terrible to them. So while they're heavily overused and can
make you document look very "me too", sticking to the
tried and tested, commonly available typefaces like Times,
Helvetica, Arial etc. makes good sense.
Adobe Acrobat PDF
A common method of sending documents so that typeface (font)
issues are overcome, is to submit your CV as an Adobe Acrobat
portable document format (PDF) file, but this too has it's own
limitations.
First you'll need to be able to create an Adobe PDF files. Then
you'd be surprised to find just how many people don't know about
Adobe PDF files and don't have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed.
Thus they won't be able to see your document easily and thus
overlook it.
Also many recruitment agencies will use automated scanning
techniques to extract details from your CV into their databases.
Many of these scanning processes can't handle PDF files.
Text Files
Almost everyone can accept plain text files, but we don't really
recommend them since the format of your CV says something about your
personality.
