CV Format
Make a great first impression with your resume
Infopeople will typically submit your CV to clients in the exact format
that we received it from you. If we think the format can be enhanced
we will suggest improvements to you. On some occasions, a client
may require that all CVs are submitted in a standard format or house
style. However, in-line with our ethical approach to recruitment we
will only make amendments to CVs with your express permission.
Make it Look Good
How you CV looks will express something about you, but that does
not mean that you should go big on self-expression when you are
putting it together. Quite the reverse in fact.
Neat and slightly understated is generally better, though you
could include a couple of unusual elements just to give it a bit of
character. Some people like to include a photo. Just make sure it
does you justice!
Layout
- Make the layout as simple as possible
- Make it look good,
enough space, clear font etc.
- Use headings so it is easy for the
reader to locate the information they need
- Concentrate on what you have achieved using short sentences
and bullet points; you can always expand on these at interview
- "Snapshot" your strengths, don't overload the
reader with lengthy descriptions
- Put the good stuff up front
- Make the CV easy to dip into to check dates, employment
history, qualifications etc.
- Print it on good quality
white A4 paper in black and white for ease of photocopying and
filing
- Make sure your telephone number and address are easy to find
- Don’t make any spelling mistakes — ever
- NEVER amend it by hand
There is, however, no single ideal format for CVs. CVs should
always be tailored to the position you are applying for and the
optimum layout will depend on the information you wish to highlight.
