Know What to Say

Put yourself in the other person's shoes

Review your experience and qualifications in terms of the specific job. Analyse the skills that you consider could be a valuable benefit for you prospective employer and be prepared to give examples of situations in which you have demonstrated these skills. In addition consider examples of how past employers have benefited from your efforts.

Read your notes about yourself so that you can confidently answer questions about who and where you are, as well as what you want to achieve and where you want to go.

Naturally, all interviews and interviewers are different so there are no set rules. But there are some questions that are frequently asked in interviews that you should be prepared to answer. If you are well prepared, then even if the questions actually asked are slightly different, you will find that your preparation will enable to answer these questions well.

Don't rehearse the answers. Just know the points you want to get across in answer to each question. Always make sure you can give examples to support your statements as good interviewers will ask for examples. Think about what the interviewer is looking for and try to provide answers that relate well to the job you're being interviewed for.

  • Tell me about yourself?
  • Tell me about your most significant achievement, professional or personal?
  • How have you added value to the organisation in your current position?
  • What value has your current position added to you?
  • What are the three most important qualities for a (current position/desired position)? Do you posses those? Give me examples?
  • Tell me about your relationship with your manager/peers/subordinates?
  • What steps would you take to make you division/company more efficient?
  • If you stayed with your current company, what would your next move be and why does that not appeal to you?
  • What interests you about this job and this company? What are the drawbacks?
